A Fife wedding has lots for visiting family to enjoy too. As the home of the ancient Scottish kings the Kingdom of Fife has a rich history combined with some tasty treats for food lovers. The many local artists are often inspired by the stunning coastline which is perfect for walking, fossil hunting and rockpooling.

For the adventurous guests there are some popular coastal swim spots including the Victorian tidal swimming pools of the East Neuk and of course you can explore the areas famous golf courses.

Where are the best photo shoot locations in Fife?

Venues will always have a nice spot for your photographs but perhaps you fancy a quiet little adventure, just the two of you, to a beautiful place near by, a moment for you to reflect on your day, take a pause and catch up?

Or, maybe you want an engagement shoot somewhere beautiful?

Best Beach Locations

For me, you can’t beat running around a beach at sunset, perhaps even dipping your toes in the water. I’ve explored many of the beaches around Fife, photographing at them, swimming at them and canoeing at them. For a photo shoot, there are a few I love more than the others and they are around St. Andrews, Aberdour, Kinghorn & North Queensferry.

Best TOWN Locations

Many of the old houses in the cute coastal Fife towns were built with small doorways and windows to keep the often brutal Scottish weather out. The miniature features especially in Culross, Pittenweem & Crail make such cute backdrops for photos.

Best country locations

Loch Leven is a favourite spot for photo shoots, you have hills, woodland & a lochside beach to explore. In Dunfermline, you can visit the formal gardens and pretty woodland areas of Pittencrief Park or in St. Andrews, the Lade’s Braes has some fantastic spots, you just need to know the way in but I can help with that!!

Things To See & Do In Fife

If you are coming to Fife for your wedding or you’ve got guests visiting who would like to know more about the area, check out the list below. I’ve gathered lots of info together for you to explore & share.

Hopefully it saves you a job and makes your wedding planning a little simpler!

  • Towns

    Explore the cobbled streets and palace of 17th century Culross or venture into the impressive abbey in Dunfermline which was the home of seven Kings.

    Before golf, St. Andrews was famous with pilgrims who travelled from all over the world to visit the cathedral via the Pilgrims Route which is now sign posted walking route.

    Big Explores

    • Dunfermline Abbey & Palace (home of the medieval royalty, free)

    • Scottish Fisheries Museum (explore Scotland’s fishing history)

    • Culross Palace (colourful 16th century house with beautiful gardens)

    • Abedour Castle (one of the oldest dateable castles in Scotland)

    • St. Andrews Cathedral & Castle (the largest Scottish church till it’s destruction in 1559)

    • Falkland Palace (a palace to the kings, ran by the National Trust)

    • The Secret Bunker (Scotland's secret underground nuclear command centre, near Crail)

    Little Explores

    • St. Fillan’s Cave (tiny little cave refuge in Pittenweem)

    • Lady’s Tower & Viewpoint (a short walk from St. Monans’)

    • North Queensferry Harbour Light Tower (tiny light tower beside the pier)

    • Abbot House (16th century pink house beside Dunfermline Abbey, good cafe)

  • The longstanding Pittenweem Art Festival is held in August and is a great chance to explore not just beautiful art but also the picturesque town of Pittenweem where the art is displayed in many of the beautiful homes. If you’re not around in August, there are lot’s of other amazing art locations to explore.

  • Checkout 17 Top Places To Eat in the East Neuk. I would also add the Cocoa Tree in Pittenweem to the list for it’s amazing food & chocolate treats.

  • The Fife Coastal Path runs from Kincardine to Newburgh. You pass through pretty villages & along sandy beaches.

    Choose a section to explore and if you’re lucky you might spot some seals along the way (Kinghorn-Kirkcaldy is a great seal area).

    Elie is a favourite for many visitors to Fife. Check out the Elie Chain Walk for an alternative coastal adventure & get to some unique beaches by climbing along the rocks with the support of the chains.

  • Check out the magical waterfalls of Maspie Den near Falkland for a magical woodland walk.

    If you’d like to spot red squirrels go for a forest walk in the Devilla Forest near Culross or Tentsmuir near St. Andrews.

    The rolling Lomond hills have fantastic views, from the top of Maspie Den you can continue up onto either East or West Lomond or explore the more magical waterfalls via the John Knox’s Pulpit which meanders up Glen Vale to West Lomond

  • Famous as the home of Golf, visit St. Andrews to see the Old Course or visit one of the other 50 golf courses in Fife.

  • If you love the water and wildlife then consider a boat trip to one of the islands. They are fantastic places to see puffins, terns and seals. There have also been occasional sightings of dolphins and whales (Humpback, Minke & Sei) from the boats and shoreline.

    The May Princess takes you out to the Isle of May, a nature reserve sitting out at the mouth of the Forth river. You can get the boat from Anstruther to the Island.

    Inchcolm Island sits off Aberdour, near the Forth Rail Bridge and boats to the island go from South Queensferry.

    There are also some sea safari’s around, if you prefer a bit more speed.

  • The Fife coast has lots of fabulous beaches with some brilliant swim spots:-

    • Aberdour Silversands

    • St. Andrews West Sands

    • Kingsbarns Beach

    • Elie Beach

    • Kinghorn Pettycur Bay

    • St. Monans, Pittenweem & Cellardyke Tidal Pool

    • Lochore Meadows

  • Here’s my top list of family days out for any families staying around the area:-

    • St. Andrews Aquarium (a showcase of beautiful local sealife along with exotic animals including reptiles, meerkats and penguins)

    • Fife Zoo (a cute little zoo which is building up it’s animal collection all the time)

    • Craigtoun Park (country park with boating lake train rides, play parks & ice cream)

    • The Scottish Deer Centre (not just deer, they have falconry, wolves, lynx, bears & a couple of great playparks)

    • Deep Sea World (a showcase of scottish marine life in an underwater tunnel, they also have seals, reptiles & sand tiger sharks)
